With Black Panther being one of the biggest hits in the MCU, this is a great recap before going to the next phase at the same time keeping it new with their new looks and costumes. Just more gravy before the big premiere of Avengers IW.

Well after breaking the all time top 10 U.S.and the top 50 World Wide,  and on it's way to breaking the $ 1 Billion mark, how much can China help on top of that? And does it matter? Well to the studios it does. but lets face it. Superhero movies and Star Wars franchise do not clear $100M mark but Pacific Rim made over $200M did. Go figure.

Oscars Review: (dedicated to the few who saw this show, lol)
Shades of Water was the big shocker. It was suppose to be a showdown between 3 Billboards and Dunkirk but instead Dunkirk got the tech awards instead of Shades and Shades got the Oscar.  At least Billboards got some of the acting awards. But the best thing is we fantasy/sci-fi/horror fans got one in our corner. The last big one was Return of the King. Now the only thing Del Toro has to do is direct a Godzilla film. Done. Drop Mic.

Really? You nominate films that no one saw and leave Wonder Woman of the list when there was still a spot open to include one more film for a total of 10 films. So what audience is the Academy looking for? Either way they sure miss the boat.  On top of that the show was boring as hell.
Even tho Shades was the big surprise of the evening I was ok with most of the wins especially Roger Deakins finally winning for his camera work after 20 nods. It was about time. The rest? Meh...
But special shout out at the Memoriam Section, they included the first actor to play Godzilla. Now that was cool. And one of our members from our Godzilla community posted that on our page. Good to know I was not the only one watching the show.

If any picture deserves to be trashed it's Transformers. Yeah Emoji  was a waste of time but, hell, there was a lot worse pictures that deserve to be on this list. Sure Baywatch was a waste of time but again, it plays better at home especially those Zac Efron jokes by Johnson. Those were funny. Have to give to Dwayne Johnson for Baywatch accepting his Razzie on Instagram. Well what else can he say? He's got 2 films coming out back to back, so he's gotta smile about it, lol.

So who thinks that Del Toro should direct a Godzilla movie?
My bet? Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. He did Kaiju and robots in Pacific Rim so why not?

Wow, nobody saw this coming besides Disney of course with all their marketing pull. Now the question is will this have legs for the rest of the month going into March. While a great looking film and a great cast, the hype couldn't compete with the story which was dragging all over the place. 2 big scenes, car chase and ending, and the rest was a total bore. And what was up with that damn train at the finale? And poor Andy Serkis. Another character setup from a previous film only to be wasted half way thru in the next. What's up with that?
Mini-review:  3 out of 5. Even tho Wankanda reminded me of Thor, they could have shown more of it. And yes the Bond influence was obvious, no problem there but can we get to Infinity War already?

I finally caught up to all the films except for Mudbound. The last of the bunch to watch was
I, Tonya in which Allison Janney won for Suppt Actor. I mean she nailed it. She was funny as hell, even better than Margot Robbie. Scene with the shotgun "this never happened!" is a classic.
To be honest all the Suppt Actresses were just as good especially Spencer (Shape of Water) and Metcalf (Lady Bird, Sheldons mother lol)

From the studio that brought you the original Star Trek. That's right Desi Arnez (cuban, latino) had faith in Rodenberry's dream and produced the show. And who ever the business man is, it's great he's continueing the tradition and bringing back another classic from the 80's. Less mention of that tv series spinoff the better. AND we don't talk about V the TV Reboot that starred Morena (what a shame and waste) but now is on Gotham to our benefit lol.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight:  4 out of 5. DC gets it right again for direct video.
12 Strong: 4 out of 5: While it drags in places the action in between and the ending make up for it.
Den of Thieves: 4 out of 5: great build up to an intense last half hour. While the twist at the end is a bit of a ripoff from another movie, you don't see it coming. Critics got this wrong of course, lol.

I'lllmake this short since I already hadve said this in the past:
Stop nominating 9-10 films. Go back to the original. 5 Best Pictures, 5 Best Directors. That's it.
Only 2 films belong on this list. Dunkirk and 3 Billboards.
And where the hell is Wonder Woman? There was a 10th spot open and they couldn't put it there?
So....
Now as much as I love Shape of Water, it's Del Toro's love letter to his childhood of monster movies from the past. I can't believe it got this many nods but it will get all the technical wins. But Del Toro should get the Director award. Now he should go direct a Godzilla movie and we're all good.
While I supported Dunkirk from the get go, 3 Billboards will probably get the Best Picture award.
 ...and I got no problem with that as all the acting in this was top notch. Both Woody and Sam betting supporting awards. But it would be nice to see Dafoe get his due, he was that good.
Finally...
Well Creature features, horror, Sci-fi and comics got their due even tho Wonder Woman got look over:
Shade of Water almost broke the rules as getting the most nods for a single picture.
Get Out got some nods, god knows why but still a plus.
Last Jedi, Apes and Kong, Guardians all got for VXF
Logan for Screenplay
Blade runner for cinematography, lets face it Roger Deakins never won considering how many times he's been nominated so it be great he gts his due. Shame its for a picture that just plain stunk.
And finally The Greatest Showman got its show tune nominated but Coco has this one.

OUCH! China pulls the plug on thebox office. They didn't even give it another week. That kills its chance to enter the top  of all time when it can even clear $50M where both Pacific Rim and Coco clears $200M. The Force wasn't strong in the country, lol.

Yep they pulled it off. Did all that hatred pushed this inot being the second biggest Star Wars movie. Itsure didn't hurt that's for sure. At first I didn't think this would be a good idea as it might be too heavy dialogue driven then heavy cursing and over the top bloody violence. But after seeing Netflix series Black Mirror (see next article!!!) this would be the right direction to go.  5 out of 5 !!! Seth McFarlane better watch out. If this gets it's own series this will be a huge hit. The series itself is like the Twilight Zone. A different story each episode with a totally new cast for each show. But this one episode called USS Callister is a kicker and a half. This had everything. Parody, self aware, mysterious, suspense, funny as hell with some salty language and a very cute Lead who goes up against a complete jerk. Perfect. Enuff some me. SEE IT!

I actually like this film except that extra long ending aka Suicide Squard, Kill the villian already! It's Alien Nation meets for LOTR for sure.

Mini-review: Last Jedi: 4 outta 5: Yeah it's a mess but mind you I never liked the plot for this trilogy to begin with. Action scenes were great and that big cameo from ESB got me. But story still sucks.

For a film thats getting a lot of hates this is doing huge business considering the 2nd film of the trilogies don't have that Wow factor. Even with ESB when first release. But what gets me is this has hardly adropoff as most films usually can have a 25-50 Percent audience drop off. And a lot of fans are going to back for the repeats. So much for the hate. While a lot of films are going thruthis process, what gets me is the Director was cool and a cucumber. I worked on this film over 1 days thrua 3month period and never saw him freak out. More on the show. And yes I did shake hands with Hugh Jackman at the end of the shoot. Real cool guy.

JL 3 out of 5: It wasn't that bad. Different tones to be expected due to 2 different directors. Way better than BvsS. My main problem that the whole film was too damn dark. Budget couldn't afford light bulbs? But this had many good moments and the whole cast shined considering all the damn cuts.

This is just plain embarrassing. So what happened? Fans are getting tired of being burned with reshoots and recuts. BvsS, SS, Rogue One, rumours of the Han solo movie,. seeing a trailer and half the scenes are  missing from the movie. Again Rogue One is still the biggest sin, that Tie Fighter scene. More below but what does this mean for JL2 ? Well the title is poison that's for sure. Another version from the Comics is Flashpoint, and that should be the right direction. And never mind that post credit scene. We don't need Eisenberg's Luthor back. Totally miscast. Shame about Deathstroke.

Too obvious to mention. We all know the previous adaptions were less than perfect so of course once "IT" is a hit the studios are going to milk the back catalogue. Actually I can't blame them. Everything else they are touching is turning to crap anyways. But do they think these remakes are going to be better? "IT" is the worst remake of the year. The TV series was way better. Even with the poor SFX considering the time period. But Tim Curry was the ultimate evil clown.

Movie Reviews:
Ratings: 1 = sucked, 5 = great
"IT":0 : Most overrated movie of the year. Too long, too boring too much CGI clown. Done.

American Assassin: 3: Weak plot but lots of action. Micheal is great as always and even tho too much CG it had a great ending at the ocean. PS: check Keaton out in The Founder, the Mcdonalds story guy solid 5 out of 5 and he and the movie should have been nominated to Oscar last yr.

Killing Gunther: 2: Arnold only shows up at the last 20 minutes of the movie but he was great considering it's film in docu style which really sucked. But that 3 cam shot at the end was cool.

Lucky Logan: 2: Daniel Craig was a snap as a southerner and that cameo by Seth was cool but this was so flat and boring, by the end I couldn't care less if they got away with it or not.

Wolf Warrior: 3: Can't believe this is in the top 5 World Wide at the box office this year. Lots of action but I couldn't get into this plot whatsoever. Way overrated for such a money payoff.

Cable/Tv/Livestream Reviews:
Star Trek Discovery Parts 1&2: 3 Not as bad as I thought but I look at this as a different timeline. My main problem? Those are not Klingons! And why is everything so dark. Love the actors tho.

Orville: 4:  Dramedy? Seth needs to have a better balance with this But remember this. ST:TNG Season 1 was so off centered that it took S2 to get it right and Seth did the Screenwriters room on the BR release of ST:TNG. And the parodies on his show. He's doing it better than Discovery. Ouch!

Batman & Harley: 4: This pays homage to the '66 tv series which I grew up with. Along with the music,  graphic balloons (ah my balls!) and Harley was great! Hate the tv series? You'll hate this.

Rough Night: 2: Love the girls but where was the humour? I have no problem with Weekend At Bernies with an all female cast aka Ghostbusters. But did someone forget the laughs?

The Live on MNN show was suppose to be in repeats but apparently some people didn't get the memo and it went live, some were pissed off that I wasn't there, lol. Glad to know you support the show and care.
Below are some pix of Gotham on location near where I live at City Hall. This was a day I was not working on a show so I was free to take pics. I did three days on Gotham last week and was not allowed to take pics on the set. Somebody did take a video on the first day and after posting it hell broke lose. Hence the warning do not take pics/video on the set.
The main photo above I was allowed to take a pic as that set was used for holding the backgrond actors to rest and no filming was done there. That is the Police Precinct on Stage 9, since it wasn't used most of the lights wee shut off hence why it was kind of dark.
The experience? One of the best shows I worked on beside the fact it was also one of the longest shoots per day as the last day (Friday) I clocked in over 16 hours. Worth it ! as I got to work with The Riddler, most of the girls and a surprise guest. Signed a waiver that I can't talk about the scenes but when the show premieres, EP 7, in November, then I will talk about it on the Live show.

Note: Look at that very small sign in yellow exactly in the middle on. the floor. Ok now look up at the guy in the white shirt: Jim Gorden folks lol.

I got a beef with this list but I'll make it short cause only one Superhero movie made the list. WTF!
Snow White was a cartoon, Mary Poppins also had had a cartoon sequence, King Kong '75 was a guy in a suit (not that's a bad thing) and that blue screen was awful at the end, Jaws was a robotic shark (looked great tho), 300 had massive overkill with the blue screen...
SO only Superman '78 made the cut. How about the first Avengers movie. That didn't bring it up a level or two?
