Time to do some catching up. So here is the latest news from the past 2 weeks and my 2 cents on it.

EQ2: 1, Denzal got it right the first time. This was a total bore. Where did the action go?
Hotel T3: 2,  liked the first 2 but this was a missed opportunity. Where did the humor go in this one?
Skyscraper: 1, 3 things missing: George the ape, Bruce Willis and token one liner: Yippy Ky Ay MF.
Mama Mia:2, Love Abba (always gad big bad crush on the blonde one) but not even Chere couldn't save this one. If you didn't know the catalog you were lost. Should have re-used the hits again.

MI Fallout: 4, Seeing Cruise take on Superman gone bad was way cool even tho Rogue Nation is the best one out of all of them. So now how is he going to top this one?

Godzilla Trailer: 5, I don't review trailers. This is the exception. This gave me chills. And to be honest this was way better than most movies seen this year. Nothing but sequels. Ugh.

Godzilla Anime 2: 1, So friggin boring. GZ does nothing till the end. Thats it? All that build up for nothing. And talk of MechaGZ and that doesn't even show up for a showdown. What a waste.

Ant-Man & Wasp: 3, Great SFX with lots of action to boot as set pieces but story itself is so Meh.
Sicario 2: 2, Didn't like the first one, didn't like this one. Great acting, boring script.
Gotti: 3, Travolta nails it for a Golden Globe but this deserves 3 hours on Netflix and not so rushed.

Wow, reeks of desperation. Way too late to save the trilogy that it won't matter. But it should be a cool cameo. Yep, cameo. Did anyone see him on Dancing with the Stars last year? He could barely stand up never mind trying to dance. Cue oxygen tank off screen. So KK still got a job? I'm surprised lol.

There goes re-doing that third act gig again. Does anyone read these scripts? The more I hear about this movie the more disappointing it sounds like. They never got any of these right since the original even tho A vs P was the closest to the Dark Horse comics version. But that screamed of a budget of $150M at that time and was never made. So we got the watered down PG version of it.

This and Avengers are the big titles to look forward to. Lots of great material here and hopefully Avengers not only have the extra footage but have a commentary with some of the actors included. Reynold did a great commentary on the first DP, which should set an example for the producers of Avengers to follow.

When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth

This weeks blog has many movie reviews and backlogged articles to catch up on the past few weeks.

Mini-reviews: 1-5, Bad to Great
JW Fallen Kingdom: 3, Mixed bag to say the least but mostly covering The Lost World including 2 Dinos grabbing a villain and play "lets make a wish" and splitting him in two. Zoo under the mansion was dumb for the second half but the showdown finale still works. JW1 was still way better.

Jurassic Games: 1, Hunger Games with Dinosaurs rippoff. At the end the corporation brings back a new improve game with Dinos carrying machine guns on their backs. Sound stupid? That was an idea Speilberg had after JP3 believe it or not and still mentioned in JW as a military plan. Now why do they think this is a cool plot to begin with? Yikes!

Incredibles 2: 3, way overrated. Jack the baby steals the picture but the rest was a big MEH. The main story just dragged on too long with a lame villain.  We don't need a 3rd sequel.

Oceans 8: 2, All that talent and this is the best they can come up with? Not fair to the talented ladies involved. I like the role reversal but the script really lets them down with most nothing to do. Shame.

Hereditary: 0 Yep ZERO!!! The worst picture of the year so far. This Horror is the new Bore! zzzzzz.

Escape Plan 2: 1, Stallone and Batista are hardly in it. This could have past for an Asylum picture since this had a next to nothing budget. After Guardians why did Batista do this anyway?

"Don't let the door hit you on the way out". Wow, no one wants this position. If they get rid of someone who's been in the business like forever, whats going to happen to the second banana who takes over. One mistake and they're out. Nice business, eh?

One more time: Specter Sucked big time and is one of the worst Bond films. So lets get the next one out of the way already, say goodbye to Craig and Hardy with Chris Nolan take over the franchise already. Whats ironic it's Brosnan giving the OK considering that he also had one of the worst films in the franchise. Even Halle Berry couldn't save that one. But it did have Madonna. How wonder it sucked.

And Billy Dee Williams' Lando to make a cameo.  It shows you how afraid they are that No. 9 might get rejected aka Solo. The fans have spoken.

Already prdictions are going for the $1Billion mark. But it won't be from the U.S. box office. Incredibles 2 lost over 65% audience in the second week and JW2 will do the same once the fans start with the mix reviews. But that won't stop with JW3 from coming out.

Finally, To boldly go ahead instead of going in the past with that crap Discovery. Like Star Wars 9 with those damn cameos (now I'm getting tired of hearing about in less than 24 hours) they bring out Capt Picard to launch a new series. Which is not a bad thing, just gimmicky. But revisit Wrath of Khan story. Jezz thats plain sad. Leave that alone already. Kelvin timeline buried that for good.
While they're at it cancel Discovery and just move forward. Something I've been crying for a long time.

Star Wars Solo Tanks !

Great action scenes, but what was the point of  introducing characters just to kill them off half way thru the film? Pushing the action figures again? The big miscast was Lando not Han. And that Darth angle at the end was so lame. A character from the worst entry of the series? Lazy Writing, courtesy of Deadpool screenwriting 101. lol.

At least it didn't buried DP2 which is the better movie anyways. But lets face it. Solo is just an iconic character that audience was not going to accept a young actor doing it. Simple as that.

Mini-Review: 4 out 5
Great film. I agree it's sort of Marvel's Empire Strikes Back with that big cliff hanger. My only complaint and it's minor was the editing at the beginning with some of the action scenes. And the love story with Gomorra. I know, it was part of the story but it kind of dragged the middle of the movie. That's it. I can't believe some of the complaints from critics. Did they really see the movie?

TAke out Panther and no film has yet crossed the $150M mark this year. Heck even Female Ghostbusters last year crossed that and man did that get panned big time. Can't depend on Tentpoles all the time like Avengers and Solo. Especially when you have MEG for your mi summer fill. C'mon did that trailer looked bad or what?

Talk about alot of faith in the material or what ever they read for their part. Dr. Stange looks like the lucky one who got to read the entire script. And for Spidey who can't keep his mouth shut? They finally learned not to tell him anything. This guy doesn't want to keep his job does he?

While it did decent business here, it could have done better considering how much publicity he did. Did you see his Instagram account? Surprising people at the theatres, which I thought was cool, was great publicity but een that goes so far. Well the hardcore fans aka Big Monsters have hope this will lead for a big box office for Godzilla vs. King Kong. At least Rampage did great business overseas especially in China. That can only be good for Godzilla. At least Johnson can brag for the next two weeks about since this and everything else on the market will be toast when Infinity Wars come out.

Rampage Mini-review: 3 out of 5.
Considering its based on a video game (which I owned a version on WII console) and usually don't work in movies, this was fun. But this really need 4 writers and showed badly in this. But I took it for what is was. Big monsters trashing shit. Good enough for me. And gotta admit they gave George a cool personality. But it was Lizzie that brought down the house. They could of done more with the fox. Well hell bring on the sequel. This time one writer please. Thank U.

I'm a huge fan of the original so this is a big deal for me. But after one episode I still have to warm up to the idea of a female Dr. Smith and a robot with no personality whats so ever. But like Star Trek Discovery this will take time to warm up to. But just the idea they are going ahead with a season 2 considering the backlash the first season is getting. Take about faith on Netflix part.

So far only one film has broken the $150M mark, guess who? And we're heading close to the half year mark and nothing as broken through big time. Quite Place: 4 out of 5: My beef was the opening, who leaves a little kid to bring up the rear? (relax, its in the trailer). In the animal kingdom the prey always looks for the smallest in the herd to attack. But the rest was great. Kraskinski is going to have a good future as a Director if he keeps this up. They should give him the Alien franchise. He got the horror sci-fi angle to the T.

Here's my 2 cents: It kept my attention through out the film and it was only 90 minutes long! Not a bloated over 2 hours long of a film in love with itself. Know how to edit your film directors!  This one got it right.

Now that Black Panther is No. 3 of all time U.S. boxoffice!??, a lot of pressure is on Marvel for Infinity War to hit the top 5 of all time. Panther beating Titanic is the big head scratcher of all time.
But in the meantime Quiet Place is going to enjoy its run while Rampage is screwed. Look at Pacific Rim 2 and how that's disappearing quick. Audiences are not into Big Giant things at the moment so good luck with that. And for that other 800 lb gorilla in the room........

This don't look good at all. It doesn't matter to me either way. I'm there for the wookie and the ship.
Will this do good as Rogue One remains to be seen. But if this tanks, lol by Disney standards money wise, they will start thinking about all the other stand alone movies. Obi-wan is fine but a Boba Fett? No thanks.

Bonus:
I found this in the closet when I thought it got lost in the flood thanks to Hurricane Maria.
This IS the original model plastic kit released back in the 1980's never put together. The problem with the kit is that the back actually glowed but it needed big ass D Batteries to light up the back with LEDs. What happened was it tilted the model onto its ass cause it was heavy at the back end. When the model got released again for the Return of the Jedi they excluded that feature with no light or batteries. I never put it together for that reason little knowing that now I have a original kit. Yeah it's still inside the box lol.

Black Panther is ready to take out Titanic as the 3rd biggest film of all time at the U.S. box office, with only Avatar and SW Force Awakens leading the pack. How the hell did that happened? WTF!?

Now Avengers IW has to beat this record to be the third biggest. Guaranteed top 10 but if there's no repeats they got a problem.

PS It did hit the top 10 World Wide. At least it beat Frozen for the top 10 spot.  

Mini-reviews:

Radio Player One: 3 out of 5.

King Kong, Batmobile chase and a Speed Racer Mach  cameo at the beginning? Check.

Iron Giant vs. Mechegodzilla and a don't Fck with Chuck cameo at the end? Check.

And the middle? Boring as hell. And that camera was all over the place to the point I couldn't even tell what was going on in the first place. And this needs $400M to break even? Article below.

Last Jedi BR: 3 for the film, 5 for the documentary and features.

As I said on the show, I liked the film for what it was. A big fking mess. It did have its moments aka Yoda scene while ignoring all the beats from Force Awakens. Rey parents were drunks? That's it?

For me I never liked the story arc to begin with. Lets kill Han in the first. Lets knock off Luke in the second. Oops no Liea for the third.  Just get this trilogy over with and be done with it.

While fans hated what Director Rian did with the story line, who gave him approval in the first place?  Exe. Producer Kennedy and company. Like they didn't know this was going to piss off the fans and give the next director, JJ,  a headache to fix these problems in the narrative. While it's obvious Rain can't direct his own script, they should have brought in Lawrence Kasden for a re-write or at least have JJ supervise it. They should have listened to Hamill. He was right in the first place. 

Great documentary. Can't believe all those sets were built to give the film a more realistic look. More practical effects than CGI even tho you couldn't even tell with some scenes. Good to see Andy Serkis doing his thing without the CG. Why they give him more credit as an actor is beyond me. And why did some of those scenes got cut? That elevator scene was funny and you got to see more creatures at the gambling casinos. And what was wrong with the caretakers village scene, too much aka Ewoks?

So he gave them the summer blockbuster with Jaws at Universal Studios. In returned they turn him down for Close Encounters 3K which he made at Columbia studios. Flash forward 30 years later they didn't want to release "Lincoln" in the theatres. So why is he still defending an old system that's on the way out anyways?

Well this makes sense considering Princess Leia is out of the picture. And that idea of Meryl Streep being made as a replacement for Leia? Worst idea ever. But why was her name mentioned to begin with? Streep made a film called "Postcards from the Edge" based on a book written by Carrie Fisher based on her life. So that's the connection. They should leave it alone and have the opening scroll to SW9 mentioning her passing. Why not. They didn't even mention Han Solo's funeral in Jedi.

Mini review: 3 out of 5
Yeah yeah, simple plot, lousy characters, bla bla bla. Who cares? I wanted more kickass robots and lots more more action and got it. Now the next one just needs more Kaigu through out the movie, not enough in this one even tho we got one hell of a big one to make up for that. (minor spoiler, lol).

That's if this does huge in China. Remember they got tired of robots with the last Transformers. But this deserves another pass. PR2 was much simpler than the first and not as bloated, sorry Del Toro.
But they need to come up with cooler creatures next time around.

Movie Reviews: Finally caught up with March releases: 1 - 5 = Bad to Worst.

Sherlock Gnomes: 4: If you like the first one...clever, funny and good mystery plus the songs.
Tomb Raider: 3: Lots of action but still in the shadow of an Indy ripoff.
Wrinkle in Time: 1: Wtf? Total misfire and a total bore. Reese as a Flying lettuce was cool tho.
Death Wish: 3: Great warmup for the next Die Hard. Decent remake with different ending.
Hurrican Heist:1: Syfy leftover. All heist in the gloomy rain. Only last 15 minutes is the poster. ripoff.
Annihilation: 1: Didn't add up to much. And the big mystery at the end? zzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Red Sparrow: 1 for Jlaw nude. Please leave the spy genre to the British. One of the worst of the year.
Peter Rabbit: 2: Some funny then gets redundate. For fans of Paddinton Bear which was better.
Early Man: 2: Say it aint so Gromit.

Honorable mentions:
Atlantic Rim 2: 1: Worst knockoff than the first one. They didn't even try with this one lol.
Hellraiser Judgement Day: 1: Just tired old blood and those 3 chicks were disgusting. What a waste.
Hellraiser JD Commentary: 4: Great filmmaking 101. And on a budget of $350,000. Holy crap!
Ps there a lot more making of on Youtube about the film. Honest director thats for sure.
Cloverfield 3: 1 for the arm making me laugh. FK this franchise already. Hated it from day 1.
Ritual: 1: No big deal until the big reveal of a giant Moose looking creature with a dumb ending.
Death Race 4: 1: They have to stop with these. No imagination with the cars and the action.
Mom and Dad: 3: Nic Cage going nuts as usual. Crazy with a good premise on the plot.
Looking Glass: 1: Cage looks bored. Sexual Psycho thriller. Where? On the Lifetime channel?

Again, WTF? No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 3 after Avengers 1 and 2 world wide. Nobody predicted this, not even Disney. Avengers 3 has to take this out. Sorry but it wasn't all that compare to the gross amount. Well at least Panther beat Iron Man 3, the worst of the IM trilogy.

What they do is stick to the books that the films are based on. And not do the Walking Dead and be all over the place with the storyline and make up half the crap that the show does. But there is still so mch potential to this franchise. Here's my mini-review:
PR2: 3 out of 5. Compare to PR1 its apples and oranges. Not as tight as the first one. But this gets the edge as most of the action takes place in daytime and not at night amoung rain storms and the action can be clearly seen and not with frantic editing aka Transformers especially in the second half where they go all out assault. PR3? Bring it on !

Panther is Hollywoods Worst Nightmare
Panther is just about to take over the top 5 of U.S. all time passing Last Jedi at No. 6 and beating
The Avengers of the number 5 position. This will be Marvels biggest picture ever in the U,.S. market.
How the hell did that happen? But it shouldn't last long. Avengers IW should beat that unless its the biggest turd this side of Justice League. But as the article states, besides Han Solo, the competition doesn't have a chance till the summer. And even that doesn't look good with more sequels, ugh.
PS They forgot to mention one comparison with Titanic. The big picture that took on the ship was James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies, the 2nd Pierce Brosnan. Man that got buried by the iceberg.

Well, while I like Panther (3 out of 5), this has to be the most overrated Marvel film since Iron Man 3 (Sucked!) and Avengers 2 (disappointing) to be a big Box Office hit at over $1B in ticket sales.  I just don't get it. Of course the fans are connecting the dots with the big action piece taking place at Wakanda for AIW so Panther is a must see for that alone I guess. When we go back live in May we'll have our take on the whole Marvel money machine. And how big will Solo be after all this?

And while Panther did huge opening weekend, they did the Last Jedi and killed it the 2nd week after bad word  of mouth shut down the box office. That hurt it from entering the top 10 all time. Oscars Review: (dedicated to the few who saw this show, lol)
Shades of Water was the big shocker. It was suppose to be a showdown between 3 Billboards and Dunkirk but instead Dunkirk got the tech awards instead of Shades and Shades got the Oscar.  At least Billboards got some of the acting awards. But the best thing is we fantasy/sci-fi/horror fans got one in our corner. The last big one was Return of the King. Now the only thing Del Toro has to do is direct a Godzilla film. Done. Drop Mic.

Really? You nominate films that no one saw and leave Wonder Woman of the list when there was still a spot open to include one more film for a total of 10 films. So what audience is the Academy looking for? Either way they sure miss the boat.  On top of that the show was boring as hell.
Even tho Shades was the big surprise of the evening I was ok with most of the wins especially Roger Deakins finally winning for his camera work after 20 nods. It was about time. The rest? Meh...
But special shout out at the Memoriam Section, they included the first actor to play Godzilla. Now that was cool. And one of our members from our Godzilla community posted that on our page. Good to know I was not the only one watching the show.

If any picture deserves to be trashed it's Transformers. Yeah Emoji  was a waste of time but, hell, there was a lot worse pictures that deserve to be on this list. Have to give to Dwayne Johnson for Baywatch accepting his Razzie on Instagram. Well what else can he say? He's got 2 films coming out back to back, so he's gotta smile about it, lol.

My bet? Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. He did Kaiju and robots in Pacific Rim so why not?

Wow, nobody saw this coming besides Disney of course with all their marketing pull. Now the question is will this have legs for the rest of the month going into March. While a great looking film and a great cast, the hype couldn't compete with the story which was dragging all over the place. 2 big scenes, car chase and ending, and the rest was a total bore. And what was up with that damn train at the finale? And poor Andy Serkis. Another character setup from a previous film only to be wasted half way thru in the next. What's up with that?
Mini-review:  3 out of 5. Even tho Wankanda reminded me of Thor, they could have shown more of it. And yes the Bond influence was obvious, no problem there but can we get to Infinity War already?

I finally caught up to all the films except for Mudbound. The last of the bunch to watch was
I, Tonya in which Allison Janney won for Suppt Actor. I mean she nailed it. She was funny as hell, even better than Margot Robbie. Scene with the shotgun "this never happened!" is a classic.
To be honest all the Suppt Actresses were just as good especially Spencer (Shape of Water) and Metcalf (Lady Bird, Sheldons mother lol)

From the studio that brought you the original Star Trek. That's right Desi Arnez (cuban, latino) had faith in Rodenberry's dream and produced the show. And who ever the business man is, it's great he's continueing the tradition and bringing back another classic from the 80's. Less mention of that tv series spinoff the better. AND we don't talk about V the TV Reboot that starred Morena (what a shame and waste) but now is on Gotham to our benefit lol.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight:  4 out of 5. DC gets it right again for direct video.
12 Strong: 4 out of 5: While it drags in places the action in between and the ending make up for it.
Den of Thieves: 4 out of 5: great build up to an intense last half hour. While the twist at the end is a bit of a ripoff from another movie, you don't see it coming. Critics got this wrong of course, lol.

Stop nominating 9-10 films. Go back to the original. 5 Best Pictures, 5 Best Directors. That's it.
Only 2 films belong on this list. Dunkirk and 3 Billboards.
And where the hell is Wonder Woman? There was a 10th spot open and they couldn't put it there?
So....
Now as much as I love Shape of Water, it's Del Toro's love letter to his childhood of monster movies from the past. I can't believe it got this many nods but it will get all the technical wins. But Del Toro should get the Director award. Now he should go direct a Godzilla movie and we're all good.
While I supported Dunkirk from the get go, 3 Billboards will probably get the Best Picture award.
 ...and I got no problem with that as all the acting in this was top notch. Both Woody and Sam betting supporting awards. But it would be nice to see Dafoe get his due, he was that good.
Finally...
Well Creature features, horror, Sci-fi and comics got their due even tho Wonder Woman got look over:
Shade of Water almost broke the rules as getting the most nods for a single picture.
Get Out got some nods, god knows why but still a plus.
Last Jedi, Apes and Kong, Guardians all got for VXF
Logan for Screenplay
Blade runner for cinematography, lets face it Roger Deakins never won considering how many times he's been nominated so it be great he gts his due. Shame its for a picture that just plain stunk.
And finally The Greatest Showman got its show tune nominated but Coco has this one.

From the films of 2017. There is a lot missing on this list since last year really sucked ass! At least 50 Shades, Transformers, and Baywatch made the list. I would add more but I'm just glad we made it thru the year. Now we can look forward to more useless sequels, remakes, reboots and movies nobody are asking for. Oh well more time on the beach this summer it is.

OUCH! China pulls the plug on thebox office. They didn't even give it another week. That kills its chance to enter the top  of all time when it can even clear $50M where both Pacific Rim and Coco clears $200M. The Force wasn't strong in the country, lol.

What a depressing show. I thought I was watching an Italian funeral with all that black. (relax I'm
 half Italian) One thing I did like was watching a room full of hypocrites trying to make a statement when they know what's going on to begin with and what's been going on for how long. Jeez.
But the one thing I did hate was Lady Bird getting for Best Picture in the comedy/musical catagory.
Hatred leads to Anger, Anger leads to not recommending pile of crap to anyone.

My film 3 Billboards is getting all the rave. At least Lady Bird didn't get Best Picture Nod which it got at The Globes. One of the most overrated Picture of the year. What a Fking Yawner.
But our boy Del Toro's Shape of Water got the most nods, more than Dunkirk and Darkest Hour, both British productions. Wow, a mexican director honored by the British, talk about open minded.

Yep they pulled it off. Did all that hatred pushed this inot being the second biggest Star Wars movie. Itsure didn't hurt that's for sure. Well now it's just a matter of where its going to land in the top 10 World Wide. And it looks like it's going to break the top  in the U.S. Usually the second in a trilogy doesn't do as good as the first one. This one broke the rule.

At first I didn't think this would be a good idea as it might be too heavy dialogue driven then heavy cursing and over the top bloody violence. But after seeing Netflix series Black Mirror (see next article!!!) this would be the right direction to go. And I wouldnt mind seeing Sulu go ape shit with his sword and piled up up a nice body count.

 5 out of 5 !!! Seth McFarlane better watch out. If this gets it's own series this will be a huge hit. The series itself is like the Twilight Zone. A different story each episode with a totally new cast for each show. But this one episode called USS Callister is a kicker and a half. This had everything. Parody, self aware, mysterious, suspense, funny as hell with some salty language and a very cute Lead who goes up against a complete jerk. Perfect. Enuff some me. SEE IT!

Sounds like somebody is pissed off that their not in a superhero movie. Even tho Jodi has done some Sci-Fi, the big gig to get nowaways is being in a superhero movie. She should be made not being in a Sat Wars movie, she's earn it with a few under he belt.
