Battle Angel: 3, While the effects are great, to many actions scenes were in the dark. And they leave you hanging for the sequel. Like what is up with that ship in the sky? And that former Hulk cameo?
How to Train Yr Dragon. 4, Unbelievable animation, taking it to the next level. And hundreds of dragons to boot. But they spent way to much time on the meeting of the two main dragons. But hate to say it but Battle Angel doesn't have a chance against these dragons.
Cold Pursuit: 2, Liam is always great kicking ass but the dramedy and direction didn't work at all.

Likw making money is such a bad thing. Hopefully we'll get a sequel. butthe one thing they don't you is that money is coming from inflated pricing thanks to the push of seeing it in 3D Max. If this was regular 2D it would have been a bomb.

you can binge when ever or on whatever you want. How many people you see watching thier favs on thier phones or tablets on the subway on the way to work? No more physical items. ust like the music cd's with Spotify taking over the world, lol. I lost must of my Br/DVD collection thanks to Hurricane Maria and now it just makes sense with streaming instead of spending more money on replacing that collection. But that's just me. Co-host Mark on the other hand is buying those discs like crazy. LOL.

But the most overrated is Roma, I Just dont get it. Shame about Bradley Cooper not getting the nod for Director. Good for Spike Lee. And the rest? Meh.

As far as the Globes goes I'm still sticking with Poppins getting most of the awards but don't be surprise with Star is Born in the Drama section with Gaga and Malick for the Best Actor.

Golden Globes Predictions: Mary Poppins
Simple: Since Aquaman wasn't nominated and Black Panther is the most overrated Marvel of the year, (what happened to Avengers:IW? ) Mary Poppins is going to clean up.
And the rest? Half I didnt even hear of them until they got nominated.
So basically I'm going to watch but with a "Who the fuck cares" attitude. So there. lol.

I said on the show that they would both be tied at the boxoffice but it looks like Aquaman will be the winner. While Aquaman hasn't been nominated, it's big win as it will break $500M Worldwide mark in less than 3 weeks thanks to China. And Poppins is going to walk away with all the awards. It's a win win for everyone. And even Bumblebee looks like it will do good.  It will be a long weekend thanks to the holidays.

Roma: 2, What a depressing movie. Not a holiday movie when a family member dies. Sad.
Bumblebee: 3, Whats with RT? It wasn't all that. At least they got the Volkswagon right.
Aquaman: 4. Wan got this right. Bigtime! Besides a couple of glitches in the CGI area (undersea is difficult) and Pitbull's mess on Toto's Africa song, this is a great film from beginning to end.
Lots of action through out until they bring out the big guns at the end. Top 5 for the year.
SpiderVerse: 2. This was a mess and the animation drove me nuts. Even tho I liked Noir Spidey, Ij ust didnt get Anime girl and that stupid pig.
Mowgli: 4: Serkis did a great ob on this. Why the hate? Better than the last one, total crap.

Detective Chinatown 2: 2. This was Huge internationally and is in the top 10 for 2018. I didn't get it. Filmed in NYC they skip locations like crazy. foot chase sequence in Wall St. they go thru some doors and then all of a sudden their in Grand Central. WTF. How wonder it wasn't released here in the U.S,

Movie Reviews:
Halloween: 1, Boring as hell and way too long. If it wasn't for the music this would be a wipe out.
Venom: 3, this would have gotten a 4 if it wasn't so badly edited. Why did take so long to Venom to show up, where's the 40 minutes and what happen to the R rating. Hopefully all on the BR edition.
But Hardy nailed it and the humor between him and Venom was great. Venom 2 bring it on!
Star is Born: 4, great version this time. Golden Globes for everyone. Gaga nails it as Cooper doing double duty as Director and Actor. And this time the songs are finally better this time.
First Man: 1 !!! The 2nd most overrated movie of the year (that asian comedy gets the no. 1 spot).
Boring as FK and you couldn't care less about anyone in this flix. SFX total MEH.
Bad Times El Royale: 1, This tried so hard to be a Tarantino film that it forgot to be entertaining.
Over loaded with flashbacks even at the very end. And will someone tell Thor to keep his shirt on.

A little late posting this but hopefully October will be sooner. Mark will still be doing MNN solo until I get back whenever that is. But there will be a  repeat on Oct. 6 as Mark will be at comic con.

Smallfoot: 3, Cool songs with a message. Goat steals the picture  and "Curiosity killed the Yack" line.
House of Clock: 1, Burton meets Potter wannabe, this was boring as hell. And based on a book?
Predator: 2, Great Laboratory escape scene, then they introduced the dogs and the film went downhill from there. Besides the Predator universal translator there was nothing here. Man they blew it.
Peppermint: 3, There's a franchise here, besides Neeson is getting old or they could team up lol.
Kin: 2, Meh but a good surprise ending. If only this had a budget, but a good try tho.
Papillon: 2, Needless remake. But it did have an extra 5 minutes at the end showing the real Papillon.

Our Live shows got renewed for the rest of the year and I should be back this October after taking care of family business this past summer. In the meantime Mark will continue to host the show. Crazy Asian: 1, The 1 is for respect for Michelle Yeoh what is the summers most overrated B.S. All the hype could not hide the fact this was boring as Fk and not funny at all. Talk about brainwash.
Happytime Murders: 4, The funniest completely incorrect movie of the year. Sorry Deadpool 2.
Alpha: 3 While the editing choices drove me nuts (some cuts didn't make sense), this did have a great double ending. Best part was the dog didn't die. Yeah big stickler on that.
Meg: 2 What happen to the corny parts? Cut along with the gory parts to get an PG13? While the budget was there at the beginning it looked like they ran out of money at the end. What a cop out.
Sharknado 6: 3 Time travel on a budget.. And it still works. It knows its dumb. Wish Meg knew it.
Mile 22: 1 Great idea badly done. Didn't that Bourne shaky vomit cam and cutting out of style. Biggest insult. This was Rhonda's film refitted for Mark. So no kicking ass, no lines and she dies midway holding grenades. Spoiler, I did you the favor if your a fan. She should fire her agent.
Puppet Master: 2 An update of sorts but way too much over the top gore and introduction of other silly windups took away from the originals. Even tho the flying puppet coptor was cool.

Hotel T3: 2,  liked the first 2 but this was a missed opportunity. Where did the humor go in this one?

Mama Mia:2, Love Abba (always gad big bad crush on the blonde one) but not even Chere couldn't save this one. If you didn't know the catalog you were lost. Should have re-used the hits again.

MI Fallout: 4, Seeing Cruise take on Superman gone bad was way cool even tho Rogue Nation is the best one out of all of them. So now how is he going to top this one?

Godzilla Trailer: 5, I don't review trailers. This is the exception. This gave me chills. And to be honest this was way better than most movies seen this year. Nothing but sequels. Ugh.

Godzilla Anime 2: 1, So friggin boring. GZ does nothing till the end. Thats it? All that build up for nothing. And talk of MechaGZ and that doesn't even show up for a showdown. What a waste.

Sicario 2: 2, Didn't like the first one, didn't like this one. Great acting, boring script.
Gotti: 3, Travolta nails it for a Golden Globe but this deserves 3 hours on Netflix and not so rushed.

There goes re-doing that third act gig again. Does anyone read these scripts? The more I hear about this movie the more disappointing it sounds like. They never got any of these right since the original even tho A vs P was the closest to the Dark Horse comics version. But that screamed of a budget of $150M at that time and was never made. So we got the watered down PG version of it.

This and Avengers are the big titles to look forward to. Lots of great material here and hopefully Avengers not only have the extra footage but have a commentary with some of the actors included. Reynold did a great commentary on the first DP, which should set an example for the producers of Avengers to follow.

When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth

Mini-reviews: 1-5, Bad to Great
JW Fallen Kingdom: 3, Mixed bag to say the least but mostly covering The Lost World including 2 Dinos grabbing a villain and play "lets make a wish" and splitting him in two. Zoo under the mansion was dumb for the second half but the showdown finale still works. JW1 was still way better.

Jurassic Games: 1, Hunger Games with Dinosaurs rippoff. At the end the corporation brings back a new improve game with Dinos carrying machine guns on their backs. Sound stupid? That was an idea Speilberg had after JP3 believe it or not and still mentioned in JW as a military plan. Now why do they think this is a cool plot to begin with? Yikes!

Incredibles 2: 3, way overrated. Jack the baby steals the picture but the rest was a big MEH. The main story just dragged on too long with a lame villain.  We don't need a 3rd sequel.

Oceans 8: 2, All that talent and this is the best they can come up with? Not fair to the talented ladies involved. I like the role reversal but the script really lets them down with most nothing to do. Shame.

Hereditary: 0 Yep ZERO!!! The worst picture of the year so far. This Horror is the new Bore! zzzzzz.

Escape Plan 2: 1, Stallone and Batista are hardly in it. This could have past for an Asylum picture since this had a next to nothing budget. After Guardians why did Batista do this anyway?

But revisit Wrath of Khan story. Jezz thats plain sad. Leave that alone already. Kelvin timeline buried that for good.
While they're at it cancel Discovery and just move forward. Something I've been crying for a long time.

Star Wars Solo Tanks !

Great action scenes, but what was the point of  introducing characters just to kill them off half way thru the film? Pushing the action figures again? The big miscast was Lando not Han. And that Darth angle at the end was so lame. A character from the worst entry of the series? Lazy Writing, courtesy of Deadpool screenwriting 101. lol.

Mini-Review: 4 out 5
Great film. I agree it's sort of Marvel's Empire Strikes Back with that big cliff hanger. My only complaint and it's minor was the editing at the beginning with some of the action scenes. And the love story with Gomorra. I know, it was part of the story but it kind of dragged the middle of the movie. That's it. I can't believe some of the complaints from critics. Did they really see the movie?

This article gives you some stats on what people want to see. Action and Comedy lead along with Superheroes. Some in the industry want to kill this which I think is stupid. TAke out Panther and no film has yet crossed the $150M mark this year. Heck even Female Ghostbusters last year crossed that and man did that get panned big time. Can't depend on Tentpoles all the time like Avengers and Solo. Especially when you have MEG for your mi summer fill. C'mon did that trailer looked bad or what?

Another article lost in the shuffle but still up to date as no one in the cast has seen Infinity Wars.
Talk about alot of faith in the material or what ever they read for their part. Dr. Stange looks like the lucky one who got to read the entire script. And for Spidey who can't keep his mouth shut? They finally learned not to tell him anything. This guy doesn't want to keep his job does he?

While it did decent business here, it could have done better considering how much publicity he did. Did you see his Instagram account? Surprising people at the theatres, which I thought was cool, was great publicity but een that goes so far. Well the hardcore fans aka Big Monsters have hope this will lead for a big box office for Godzilla vs. King Kong. At least Rampage did great business overseas especially in China. That can only be good for Godzilla. At least Johnson can brag for the next two weeks about since this and everything else on the market will be toast when Infinity Wars come out.

Rampage Mini-review: 3 out of 5.
Considering its based on a video game (which I owned a version on WII console) and usually don't work in movies, this was fun. But this really need 4 writers and showed badly in this. But I took it for what is was. Big monsters trashing shit. Good enough for me. And gotta admit they gave George a cool personality. But it was Lizzie that brought down the house. They could of done more with the fox. Well hell bring on the sequel. This time one writer please. Thank U.

I'm a huge fan of the original so this is a big deal for me. But after one episode I still have to warm up to the idea of a female Dr. Smith and a robot with no personality whats so ever. But like Star Trek Discovery this will take time to warm up to. But just the idea they are going ahead with a season 2 considering the backlash the first season is getting. Take about faith on Netflix part.

Like this year is going to be any different. Besides the big events like Panther and Avengers, Solo, Jurassic, is going to be another lame year. So far only one film has broken the $150M mark, guess who? And we're heading close to the half year mark and nothing as broken through big time. Lets see if Incredibles 2 and others will help the summer slump.

So that's where everyone went. Back home. The stats don't lie. The studios don't want to admit it but with binge watching and the comfort of home, the theatres are dying a slow death. And more movies are going to straight to Netflix aka The Irishman meant for the theatres. But after that price tag the studio just dumped it unto Netflix. Ouch.

Well Dunkirk was the final nail in the coffin. As reported during the summer, theatres just pulled out 3D and put in more Max screens for Dunkirk and thats been the new norm since.
